ABOUT

about

Maura Gaven was born in Chicago, Illinois, and grew up in coastal Southern Maine. She has studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Burren College of Art, and finished her BFA at the Glasgow School of Art. Her work focuses mainly on the concepts of personal histories and mythologies, the occult, and the relationships between the body and space: the internal coming into friction with the external, the uncomfortable grey space where past and future cannot touch called the “Present,” and the gap between physical form and concept. She utilizes a diverse skillset to fit medium to concept, and works with watercolour, textile, and sound.
